English Teacher, Middle School
The English Department at Nightingale seeks an enthusiastic, dynamic and collegial English teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to teach in our Middle School division. Candidates will possess and communicate high standards for their subject matter and their students and show a commitment to the best practices of teaching through ongoing professional development. Nightingale is deeply committed to cultivating a community rooted in principals of belonging and inclusion, the foundations of excellent teaching and learning. Nightingale-Bamford’s English teachers collaborate to create curriculum and assessments, so candidates should be prepared to work as active members of grade-level teams. They should be skilled in conducting writing workshops as well as leading literature discussions. All Nightingale faculty members are expected to value diversity as a source of strength, to commit to equity and inclusion, and to contribute to the school community outside of the classroom.
This is a full time, 10 month, exempt position starting on August 31, 2026.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Teach a full course load in the middle school; 5th and 6th grades
- Demonstrate a commitment to understanding students
- Employ best practices of teaching English to provide our students with an excellent learning experience
- Participate in and contribute to the school community outside of the classroom
- Perform duties outside of teaching as assigned by the appropriate administrators
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field; Master’s or PhD preferred
- At least three to five years in teaching English at the middle school level
- Excellent classroom management skills

SALARY RANGE:
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $125,000. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, teaching time, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
