Employment Counsel

We’re seeking a hands-on experienced Employment Counsel (based in United States or Canada) to join our legal team to provide practical and clear legal advice on a broad range of personnel-related topics and ensure Zapier’s compliance with labor laws. You will be a member of our legal team and report to Laura Del Gaudio, Sr. Employment Counsel, and work closely with our internal clients including People Ops, Recruiting, Total Rewards, DIBE and business stakeholders.  We’re looking for a thoughtful, creative and collaborative individual, who will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and intellectually challenging work environment.  This position provides a great opportunity to practice employment law in a fully remote company in alignment with Zapier’s core values and business goals, focusing on supporting our people to do their best work.

About You

You’re a Legal pro. You’re a licensed attorney with 4-6 years of combined in-house and law firm experience with significant experience advising US multi-state employers.  Prior in-house experience is strongly preferred for this role along with experience advising employers that support permanent remote work and a global workforce.

You have excellent knowledge of multi-jurisdiction employment laws. You have in-depth working knowledge and experience advising multi-state/province and multi-country employer(s) on various personnel related legal issues and the relevant laws and regulations at local, state/province and federal level. You are comfortable with assessing risk and proposing solutions that balance risk with business goals.  

You love the challenges and opportunities of being part of the legal team for a fully remote company. You have intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for the challenges of serving a fully remote company with personnel in many locations around the world. You are a creative thinker who is comfortable with change and ambiguity.  You are able to build scalable personnel-related policies and processes that are compliant and meet business goals, while ensuring they align with Zapier’s core values.

You're a skilled communicator. You can take legalease and make it easy to read for a diverse workforce spanning the globe. Zapier is a 100% remote team and writing is our primary means of communication.

You can integrate systems and automation into your practice. You can identify when certain issues can be self-service for legal stakeholders and help build systems for the legal team to use.
