As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for applying mechanical and electrical engineering principles to develop medical devices that meet customer technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements. You will also be conducting mathematical modeling to resolve if proposed designs are technically feasible while supporting and participating in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototypes. This position may also be involved with crafting product specific manufacturing production processes and equipment in Lake Forest, California!
Key Responsibilities:
Provide authoritative technical or professional advice and recommendations to influence internal and/or external contacts. Internal interaction interpretation of sophisticated information; external interaction requires exchange of information. Audience may be outside own area and unfamiliar with subject.
Develops and applies sophisticated concepts or proposes with new and unique approaches, methods, procedures, and designs with regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and originality to research and/or development that addresses identified ophthalmic medical device / technology needs.
Applies intermediate level principles of engineering analysis to blend technical knowledge and manufacturing practices in providing solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Provides engineering direction, resolving, and developing approach to solutions by coordinating multiple resources to solve complex problems.
Assures continuity of products through feasibility, research, design, development, compliance to customer and non-customer requirements, transfer to production.
Crafts mechanical and electro-mechanical components, systems, and products for ophthalmic surgery, including Microscopes.
Leads design reviews and reviews action items.
Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work.
Develops test methods and perform testing in a laboratory environment through the entire life cycle of the product development.
Generates detailed fabrication drawings using GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis.
Support all aspects of documentation. Verification Plans and Reports; and design control through ECN, and Windchill.
Works as a part of multi-functional project teams including EE, SW, QA, ME, OE, ID, HF, Manufacturing and Field Service.
Key Requirements/Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs;Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
5 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge of mechanical structure and linkage design.
Proficiency in CAD with large assemblies and Creo.
Experienced with design for fabrication methods including machining, Sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and rapid prototype.
Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of medical device.
Proven ability to develop solutions for problems that require the regular use of creativity.
Proven track record to work independently with limited direction.
EMC design experience.
