IT Concepts is seeking a Sr. Server Administrator who will support several projects at a federal agency. The position is located in Woodlawn, MD. The qualified candidate should have strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with sharp attention to detail.
What you'll be doing:
- Provide setup and support of Windows file, print and database servers including setup and administration of file shares and manage, support and troubleshoot file and folder permissions.
- Work daily to ensure systems run efficiently and continue to operate without downtime or performance degradation.
- Maintain software and security updates, monitor server activity and ensure availability of client/server applications, auditing server security, developing and refining processes for the ongoing management of the server and data center environment, and designing and installing new server implementations as needed.
- Provide application development support by maintaining, supporting and troubleshooting web servers, managing access to network resources and databases including SQL, IIS and SharePoint servers.
- Participate in evaluating existing systems and processes to identify improvements and updates that keep servers running in optimal conditions.
- Plan, implement, oversee and maintain server and network infrastructures and projects.
- Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans.
- Provide server documentation and how-to instructional guides as necessary.
- Define and document best practices and support procedures.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly scheduled network backups; restore data as required to support systems and data recovery due to hardware, software, or user error; verify and validate the integrity of the backups; and perform recovery test or drills periodically.
- Maintain and monitor system resource utilization, such as disk configuration, memory, and central processing unit (CPU) on servers. Recommend changes.
- Notify the Government immediately of any problems that occur during daily maintenance of servers. Examples are problems accomplishing backups, disk-space utilization, and excessive CPU utilization.
- Mentor / cross train team members on existing and new technologies.
- Carry out special IT projects at management's direction.
- Interact with customers and staff at the technical level.
- Support vulnerability assessments in accordance with Office of Information Security directives.
- Review and store the systems, security, and application event logs from servers.
- Monitor server performance and ensure all application services are running; maintain and backup all appropriate databases.
- Maintain databases resident on LAN servers and design, structure, and maintain additional databases as required supporting new applications. Database types including, but not limited to, SQL, IIS and SharePoint servers.
- Administer user access and permissions to databases residing on organizational servers.
Location: Must be in commutable distance to the Woodlawn, MD officer.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline
- 10+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience including, but not limited to, the following:
- Supporting complex windows server environments, server applications and/or network management
- Administering Microsoft enterprise solutions including Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL and IIS Server, and SharePoint
- Working with Microsoft Exchange Server and administering email accounts
- Supporting Windows file, print and database servers including setup and administration of file shares
- VMWare virtual servers and VMWare virtual vSphere web Client
- Familiarity with modern IT security practices required.
- Ability to document changes made to network systems and provide an audit trail of such activities.
- Windows server administration.
