Saint Mary’s College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach Politics 301, California and Local Politics,  in the traditional undergraduate program in Fall 2025.

Mondays & Wednesdays,  4:45-6:25pm

This course will be taught in person, on campus.

Investigation of the role of states and localities in determining the character of American politics. Analyzes the direct and lasting impact that state and local governments have on lived experiences through discussion of case studies and additional texts. Explores the interplay between federal and state governments while using the comparative method to analyze similarities and differences among the states. Topics include the distribution of power in the community; the organization of city government; state executive and legislative processes; and community responses to law enforcement, social welfare, education and taxation.

Qualifications

ABD or PhD (preferred) in political science, international relations, or related field.  Experience teaching in a liberal arts environment to a diverse student body are desirable.  Candidate must agree to structure syllabus with assignments that will demonstrate common core learning outcomes.

Candidates must reside in California.

Salary:  $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications.  The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
