Senior Manager, Infra Tech BD, Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development

We are looking for a results-oriented individual to join the AWS Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development (GCID) team to lead and manage the development of our European and Trans-Atlantic Backbone Network. In this role you will lead a team of network development experts who lead connectivity projects in partnership with telecoms companies across the region. This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to help the team grow AWS’s diverse, scalable and low-cost connectivity solutions. The candidate must be able to manage multiple large-scale infrastructure projects and teams across different geographies and evaluate opportunities to drive operational excellence, reduce capital and operating expense. The candidate will help drive new and innovative ways to scale and expand our network, to achieve these outcomes. The candidate must have good executive communication skills to manage suppliers, work with internal engineering teams, and other AWS Infra business development and planning teams to develop the infrastructure strategy and lead the execution of these network infrastructure strategies. The right candidate will have a demonstrated the ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and team management challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing the team, and managing the day-to-day interactions with your team, you will be responsible for ensuring the team delivers AWS’s infrastructure expansion across Europe.<br/><br/>Key job responsibilities<br/>• Manage and guide network development strategies across the region<br/>• Manage and develop a high performing team of network development experts across Europe.<br/>• Manage opex and capex budgets, Operational planning (OP1/OP2), process development, annual goals and the hiring, development and performance management of employees.<br/>• Collaborate with the internal teams and suppliers on the development, implementation and management of network infrastructure projects in a timely and accurate fashion.<br/>• Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to network infrastructure and supply. Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.<br/><h3>Basic Qualifications</h3><br/>• A Bachelor's Degree in an IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.<br/>• Candidates should have a minimum of 10-years telecommunications industry experience in a similar environment and a minimum of 3-years prior management experience.<br/>• Candidates should be able to demonstrate where they have influenced the design, development, contracting, implementation, and operation of long-haul backbone networks.<br/>• Extensive knowledge of IP peering ecosystems, fiber optic networks, submarine cables and the interconnection of these networks in order to obtain the highest availability for delivering online services globally.<br/>• Ability to create complex financial models to understand business impacts of various network solutions is required.<br/>• Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills are critical to success in this position.<br/>• Willing to travel.<br/><h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3>• Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent financial/business/commercial experience<br/>• Experience working at a large network operator, OTT or Internet Service Provider.<br/>• Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer requirements and build strategic plans.<br/>• Experience interacting with senior executives and other management within your own company and externally; and working across commercial, technical, domestic, and international arms of an organization<br/>• In-depth knowledge of the latest optical communications developments.<br/>• In-depth knowledge of and experience with major Internet routing protocols.<br/><br/><br/>Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
