Arcadis is seeking a Director to lead an extensive mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering business within our Places US Design & Engineering team. We are looking to grow our team of skilled multi-discipline engineers and engineering consultants throughout North America.  The role sits within our Places Global Business Area (GBA). We work with our clients around the world to create, support, and enhance smart, safe, and sustainable places where people live, work, learn and thrive. Places impact on the quality of people’s lives through new or redeveloped Industrial & Logistics (including Intermodal Terminals, Data Centres, and Manufacturing), Commercial, Retail, Residential, Defence or Social Infrastructure (Arts, Sports, Health and Education) developments.

Role description:

In this role, you will be accountable for leading a team of several-hundred engineers through ownership of client development, service excellence, people management, and business acumen. That accountability includes maintaining a culture of innovation and excellence, fostering a spirit to intelligently take on new challenges, and advancing the team skills needed to provide the best quality design solutions. You will actively collaborate with your Arcadis peers leading a variety design and construction disciplines. Beyond all, you will spearhead our effort to become the best and largest M/E/FP engineering consultant in the United States.

This position has flexible working hours, and you will join a collaborative team that truly values its people. This is a key location based position. While work can be performed across the United States, we are searching for individuals in the Texas, US Northeast (NY, MA), California, US Midwest (Chicago, MI, OH) or US Southeast (TN, GA, SC, NC) geographies. Role accountabilities:

Strategic Vision and Market Connection:  

• Ability to discern how a business unit vision supports and amplifies service solutions and how that offering solidifies Arcadis as a valued partner to our clients
• Entrepreneurial mindset with desire for multiplied, not fractional percentage, growth
• Convert global and regional market strategies into actionable plans that flow down those key points to our team in a relatable way
• Have existing relationships within the market and actively drive new opportunities that shape our service offerings
• Industry-recognized leader with book of proven client relationships

Business Acumen and Operational Excellence:  

• Have a deep understanding of business metrics, financial operation, and successful commercial strategy
• Balance business finances relating to revenue, margin, billability, and other key metrics
• Ability to create and review potential fees for win strategy and accuracy

Technical Expertise and Industry Knowledge:

• Have keen insight on sustainability and the role it plays to clients as well as how it becomes innate and innovative in delivery
• History of experience designing building systems and application of those experiences and lessons learned to present and future delivery

Leadership and People Management:  

• Upward and Downward management for a variety of solid and dashed line reports and a team of several hundred
• Innate ability to mentor and train colleagues, provide career growth, and foster inclusivity for a diverse set of colleagues

Qualifications & Experience:

• 15 or more years relevant experience
• BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or other relevant discipline
• Professional Engineer licence 
• Comfort and confidence-bringing in client-facing discussions with direct experience in leading and winning new work opportunities
• Experience working with projects that utilize Fundamental knowledge of Autodesk Platforms and other digital design tools including Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or Building Information Modelling (BIM) engineered solutions
