Position Overview:
Reporting to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, the Nurse Manager for Acute Treatment Services (ATS) will provide leadership, education, and clinical support for nursing staff in an inpatient setting focused on the treatment and recovery of individuals with substance use disorders. This role combines supervisory responsibilities with the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs aimed at improving patient care and nursing practices. The Nurse Manager ensures that evidence-based practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements are followed while fostering a compassionate, patient-centered care environment.
This leader will supervise 2-4 nurses per shift and a staff of 15-20 nurses in our ATS center.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervisory Duties:
- Directly Lead and Supervise Nursing Staff: Oversee the daily activities and performance of nursing staff working in ATS. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to nursing personnel in the delivery of care to patients with substance use disorders.
- Staffing and Scheduling: Manage nurse staffing levels, ensuring appropriate coverage for all shifts. Participate in recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training of new nursing staff members.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback. Address staff concerns, resolve conflicts, and collaborate with management to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care delivered to patients. Ensure that all nursing practices comply with hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and state/federal regulations.
Educational Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development: Develop and implement education and training programs for nursing staff that address the clinical aspects of addiction medicine, including evidence-based treatment modalities, harm reduction strategies, and best practices for managing patients with substance use disorders.
- In-Service Training and Workshops: Facilitate regular in-service training sessions, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills of the nursing team.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding addiction recovery, treatment options, medications for substance use disorder, and coping strategies for long-term recovery.
- Assess Learning Needs: Identify and assess the learning needs of nursing staff, tailoring educational programs to meet the unique needs of the inpatient addiction medicine environment.
Clinical Duties:
- Direct Patient Care: Provide direct patient care, including assessments, medication administration, and monitoring of patients undergoing detoxification and treatment for substance use disorders.
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, and ancillary staff, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
