This role requires the flexibility to travel to various manufacturing sites 50% - 75% of the time. Travel will primarily be domestic, but the flexibility to travel internationally is required.
The Role
We are seeking a Quality Performance Engineer with deep expertise in 3D scanning, virtual assessment tools, and dimensional quality analysis to join the Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) at GM. This role is critical in ensuring dimensional accuracy, quality control, and continuous improvement through advanced metrology, digital visualization, and data-driven analysis. You will work with cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, launch, and ongoing quality performance.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct detailed dimensional analysis to verify product compliance with GD&T and design specifications.
- Operate and maintain advanced 3D scanning systems (e.g., Creaform, FARO, ATOS) to capture high-resolution point cloud data.
- Utilize virtual assessment tools (e.g., PolyWorks, 3DCS, GOM Inspect) to visualize, align, and analyze dimensional data.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and variation analysis using statistical and simulation-based methods.
- Lead and support PFMEA activities, identifying failure modes and prioritizing risks.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for real-time quality performance monitoring and reporting.
- Create and manage Process Control Plans and support APQP deliverables throughout the product lifecycle.
- Interpret measurement results to identify trends, deviations, and root causes, and drive corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, quality) to implement process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and internal quality policies.
- Document measurement results, analysis findings, and improvement initiatives in a structured format.
- Provide training and support to manufacturing teams on 3D scanning and digital quality tools.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 3+ years of professional experience in dimensional quality engineering or metrology in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in operating 3D scanning equipment (e.g., laser scanners, structured light systems) and interpreting scan data.
- Hands-on experience with virtual assessment and metrology software such as PolyWorks, GOM Inspect, or 3DCS.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and its application in complex assemblies.
- Working knowledge in tolerance stack-up analysis and variation simulation techniques.
- Experience developing and maintaining Process Control Plans and supporting APQP phases.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), tooling certification, and repeatability studies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to travel and temporarily relocate for launch support as needed.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with Continuous Improvement Processes (CIP) and lean manufacturing principles.
- Skilled in using Power BI or similar tools for data visualization and KPI tracking.
- Advanced experience applying GD&T in tight-tolerance, multi-component assemblies.
- Proficiency in Teamcenter and Vis Mockup for digital product visualization and collaboration.
- Experience using tolerance analysis software (e.g., CETOL, VSA, 3DCS) for predictive quality modeling.
- Exposure to digital twin environments and integration of metrology data into PLM systems.
This position may be eligible for relocation benefits.
