Job Description

Position Overview

The Financial Reporting Senior Accountant I will be primarily responsible for supporting the annual audit process and compliance reporting matters. This role will be responsible for drafting audit reports for new audited entities as identified throughout the year and preparing audit support schedules, financial statements, GAAP footnote disclosures, and other audit deliverables required by external auditors. This position will also be involved with the confirmation process, engagement letters and management representation letters.

This position is best suited for an individual with strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills, experience preparing audited financial statements and footnote disclosures, excellent organizational abilities, and a desire to further develop in audits and financial reporting processes.

The Financial Reporting Senior Accountant I will work closely with the Financial Reporting Senior Manager and Technical Accounting Senior Manager as well as with external auditors and other Invenergy departments.

This position is on-site at Invenergy's office in downtown Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Create drafts of annual audited financial statements, including balance sheets, statements of operations, equity, and cash flows for wind, solar, and thermal energy projects and related entities.

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive GAAP-compliant financial statement footnote disclosures, ensuring accuracy and consistency across new reporting entities, including drafting disclosures for significant transactions in new audit reports.

  • Prepare, review, and maintain audit support schedules, lead sheets, rollforwards, account reconciliations, and other documentation required for annual audits.

  • Respond to auditor requests and inquiries, including preparing audit deliverables, supporting analyses, confirmations, and other requested documentation.

  • Coordinate the collection of information from accounting, tax, treasury, asset management, legal, and other departments to support audit and reporting requirements.

  • Prepare audited financial statement packages for distribution to lenders, investors, joint venture partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Perform detailed analytical reviews of financial statement activity and investigate significant fluctuations, variances, and unusual transactions.

  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, OneStream, Workiva, and other reporting tools to prepare audit schedules, financial statements, and disclosures.

  • Assist with the preparation and review of annual reporting and compliance requirements for project entities.

  • Support the development and enhancement of audit support processes, reporting controls, and documentation standards to improve efficiency and audit readiness.

  • Assist in maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and financial reporting methodologies to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company standards.

  • Participate in monthly and quarterly close activities, as needed, to support annual audit and reporting requirements.

  • Assist with other responsibilities and calculations, including parent company guarantees, asset retirement obligation analysis and annual reviews, and other compliance-related reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • At least 3 years of public accounting experience

  • Existing understanding and knowledge of GAAP

  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business/finance field preferred

  • CPA preferred

  • Experience preparing audited financial statements and GAAP footnote disclosures
