Position Summary

Part-Time Instructor, Non-Regular Rank, reports to the Chair of Health, Wellness, and Physical Education with a secondary reporting line to the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

 

Essential Functions

· Teach Health, Wellness, and Physical Education classes as assigned – Fencing.

· Be actively involved in course curriculum development.

· Maintain and submit current syllabus and learning objectives.

· Maintain and submit accurate attendance records for all classes.

· Assist the department in conducting periodic pedagogical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and participant satisfaction.

o Instructors are responsible for actively initiating the collection of course evaluations. This includes setting aside class time during the course evaluation collection period for students to complete the online course evaluation.

· Continued development of teaching skills.

· Attend three (3) Faculty Meetings during the academic year.

· Assist with departmental goals and initiatives surrounding DEIB.

· Represent the interests of the department to audiences both inside and outside the university.

 

 

Class Attendance

In accordance with the Faculty Handbook, instructors are expected to attend all class meetings. In the event that instructors have legitimate professional commitments that result in absence from class, they should notify both the department chair, department director of undergraduate studies, and the students as early as possible. Instructors should work with the department’s director of undergraduate studies to create a plan for a qualified substitute or alternative class option(s) so that class time is met or made up by appropriate means to be approved by the department chair.

 

Course Content

Instructors will update their courses periodically to reflect the latest knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fields they teach.

 

Policy-making and/or interpretation

Works closely with University members to ensure University academic policies are implemented within the Department of Recreation and Physical Education.

 

Program Direction and Development

Contribute to the development of a shared vision that supports the particular goals of HWPE and the broader goals of the Department of Recreation and Physical Education, the Athletic Department and the University.

 

 

Supervision Received

Day-to-day functions are accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives. Overall guidance is accomplished through supervisory conferences setting broad goals and objectives.

 

Level of Public Contact

Communicates with a wide variety of University staff, faculty, and students; Communicates as directed with the public.

Collects and secures confidential information regarding students, staff, and faculty. Maintains employee information and files in confidential manner.

 

Marginal Functions of the Job

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Required: Earned Bachelor’s Degree with teaching experience in a University or professional setting, or equivalent professional training and experience, working knowledge of principles and practices of curriculum, instruction, and faculty development; Ability to teach HWPE activity classes, as assigned, with a concentration in Health, Wellness, and Physical Education and other related fields; Experience in curriculum development and pedagogical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and participant satisfaction; Must have CPR/AED certification and First Aid certification; Must also possess professional certification, licensure, or relevant professional experience in areas of instruction.
