Job Description

Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) enables drug discovery and drug product development through application of pharmaceutical science to drug delivery research from target identification through clinical candidate selection for both small and large molecules as well as vaccines.  Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences influences molecular design of these clinical candidates through physicochemical property profiling and application of insights to better understand and resolve drug product developability risks.  We further utilize our expertise to identify and develop and study prototype formulations intended for clinical use and deliver robust toxicology formulations. In aggregate our team enables the transition of optimized molecules from discovery to clinical formulation development with clinical formulation strategies in place.  

Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a Sr Scientist to join our department.  The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of teams that is focused on the discovery of novel therapeutics through support of molecular profiling, de-risking strategies, formulation development and communication across discovery functions and downstream to development partners.  The main responsibilities will be to carryout critical biologics profiling and early formulation/preformulation development experiments. Development of novel drug delivery technologies will also occur.  Opportunities to also support small molecules in a similar way will also be possible.  The candidate will contribute in lab driving experimental execution applying scientific rigor.  The candidate will have the opportunity to develop innovative research as well to further refine our workflows and applied science initiatives to keep the DPS team at the forefront of Pharmaceutics assessment at the discovery interface.

It is beneficial if the candidate possesses experience related to various aspects of drug product development (i.e. formulation and process development, biopharmaceutics, analytical methods, regulatory considerations, and competitive landscape) with a drive to apply novel technologies while working at the laboratory bench.  Strong academic background will also be considered.

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated capability for implementing impactful innovation either in academia or industrial positions.  Strong communication skills and good documentation practices are essential.  The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.  

Minimum required education:

• Ph.D., M.S. with +3 years or BS with +7 years in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical / biochemical engineering, or related disciplines.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Biologics characterization and formulation experience        

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. 

• Demonstrated experience solving program challenges by leveraging strong scientific fundamentals in related subject areas including organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, biopharmaceutics, process development, and/or engineering.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

• Demonstrated patent and/or peer reviewed publication record

Preferred experience and skills:   

• Candidates with experience in pre-clinical / clinical formulation development and physicochemical characterization are preferred.  

• Advanced computation, data analysis, and visualization skills.

• Strong track record of patent applications / patents.

• Strong track record of external peer-reviewed publications.

• Demonstration of external scientific presence and influence.

• Small molecule and biologics experience
