POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Health Care Operations is responsible for overseeing development, implementation, and delivery of services to physician membership and their staff in the areas of physician & practice setting support, public health, health information technology, physician reimbursement, and practice management. This requires working directly with physicians and their staff, both via phone/email as well as face-to-face in the practice setting. This position serves as PAMED’s liaison with government agencies, policy makers, regulators, and others regarding physician reimbursement and other operational matters impacting physicians and/or their practice settings. Additionally, this position manages all activities of Health Care Operations staff and provides technical assistance to PAMED staff in other departments, specialty societies managed by PAMED, and county medical societies. Finally, this position works closely with PAMED’s CME, Training, & Physician Leadership Programs staff in the identification of needs and opportunities for leadership development for physicians, practice administrators, and other appropriate practice setting staff to address areas such as continuous quality improvement, improving patient outcomes, etc. and assists with implementation as appropriate.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Skill/ Education/Knowledge:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, leadership, public health, or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in health care or insurer setting working extensively with electronic health records, billing and coding, and physician reimbursement is required; practice administration experience preferred
  • Management experience
  • Ability to research and analyze data
  • Superior organizational and project management skills that reflect an ability to perform in an environment with multiple priorities
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to understand complex policies
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Products including Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to communicate with and work cooperatively with many different people and organizations and the ability to adjust to constant change. In addition, this position involves regular travel and evening/weekend meetings. Attendance at the Annual House of Delegates meeting.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Ensure overall operations, efficiency, and effectiveness of the Health Care Operations Department, including the internal and external task forces, councils, and committees that are the responsibility of the Department.
  2. Serve as PAMED liaison with government agencies, policy makers, regulators, and others regarding physician reimbursement and other operational matters impacting physicians and/or their practice settings.
  3. Provide technical assistance to maintain close working relationships with PAMED staff in other departments, TEAM managed specialty societies, and county medical societies.
  4. Supervise and instruct direct reports on health care operation functions by providing clear direction and expectations, identifying training needs, recognizing, and acknowledging good performance, and swiftly addressing issues or unsatisfactory performance.
  5. Research and analyze regulatory and policy issues, physician reimbursement issues, payment models, health care delivery models, health care market activities, market trends, etc. and prepare audience appropriate reports, presentations, educational material, resources, etc.
  6. Monitor physician reimbursement, payment models, health care delivery models, health care market activities, etc. and identify trends, issues, or opportunities that may arise. 
  7. Work collaboratively with PAMED’s CME, Training, & Physician Leadership Programs staff to identify additional leadership development needs and opportunities for physicians, practice administrators, and other appropriate practice setting staff to address areas such as continuous quality improvement, improving patient outcomes, etc. and assist with implementation as appropriate.
  8. Collaborate with other associations and organizations to foster relationships and identify opportunities to support employed physicians.
  9. Develop new services and resources to assist members with the business side of medical practice and improving core functions in their practice settings to increase revenue and enhance patient outcomes.
