What You Will Do

  • Assess, develop, implement and evaluate Music Therapy interventions to address the age-specific psychosocial and physiological needs of hospitalized adults and their families
  • Plan and implement music therapy groups for inpatients/outpatients/staff
  • Evaluate and mentor practicum and internship students as appropriate
  • Professional growth, information sharing and collaboration
  • Create and implement innovative ways to secure funding

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy (Required) or
  • Bachelor's Degree equivalency degree in related field (Required) and
  • Member American Music Therapy Association (Required)

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Board Certification (MT-BC) 

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrate competence with a variety of musical instruments and skills, (i.e., transposition, improvisation, song writing, instrumental/vocal arranging, drumming, and adapting instruments and therapeutic music interventions) to a variety of culturally, ethnically, racially diverse, medically, developmentally and physiologically impaired patients. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of research design and methodology, patient assessment and evaluation techniques. (Required proficiency)
  • Strong interest in multi-disciplinary team approach. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic computer knowledge (Required proficiency)

 

Preferred Qualifications/Positions Details

Previous work in a hospital setting is strongly preferred. This therapist will work throughout the entire hospital with adult patients.
