Overview: We’re looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Laboratory Outpatient Operations Coordinator to lead and support a team of lab assistants and couriers. This individual will play a vital role in training, daily operations, cross-departmental workflow, and ensuring compliance in outpatient lab services. Job Overview:

This position provides leadership and support for lab assistants and couriers. Trains, directs, schedules and assigns work. Coordinates employee departmental orientation, competency testing, compliance education, safety training, and other mandatory instruction. Edits employee time records. Works with department supervisors, lead techs, and other support service employees to develop efficient processes and procedures. Works with non-lab departments (e.g. registration, patient accounting, radiology, outside courier agency, etc.) to coordinate workflow and to troubleshoot and resolve issues. Order tests using LIS and HIS. Reviews test orders for accuracy and maintain QA records (submits monthly QA charts). Maintains inventory and orders supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership: train, direct, schedule, and assign work for lab support staff and couriers
  • Oversee departmental onboarding, competency testing, compliance and safety training, and other mandatory instruction
  • Coordinate workflow between lab and non-lab departments such as registration, radiology, and external courier agencies
  • Use LIS and HIS systems to order and review lab tests for accuracy
  • Maintain QA documentation, including monthly submissions and patient testing records
  • Manage inventory and supply orders
  • Support and guide staff on accurate, timely, and high-quality work completion
  • Step into supervisory duties in the absence of the supervisor as needed

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED (Required)
  • Formal Phlebotomy training (Required)
  • Certification as a Phlebotomist (Preferred)
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience in a healthcare setting (Preferred)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements This position involves a combination of administrative and active duties. The successful candidate should be comfortable with the following:

  • Occasionally: Stooping, reaching, pushing, reading far distances, color vision

  • As needed: Bending, lifting and moving lightweight materials

The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and timely patient service support.
