Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Process Design Intern to join our Inert Gas System team. In this role, you will be immersed in a collaborative environment, working alongside seasoned professionals to contribute to the design, optimization, and documentation of the Inert Gas System for Kairos Power's first low-power demonstration reactor. This internship is a chance to acquire hands-on experience, making meaningful contributions within a multi-disciplinary team that is driving innovation in the field of advanced nuclear energy.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering calculations and reports for sizing of process equipment and instruments under supervision (vessels, heat exchangers, control valves, relief valves, etc.)
  • Update and maintain P&IDs and PFDs under supervision
  • Interface with Mechanical Design, Instrumentation & Controls, Operations, and other Process Design Engineers to ensure designs meet plant needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for autonomous problem-solving
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with reading PFDs, P&IDs, and process equipment datasheets
  • Basic knowledge of process simulation and/or hydraulic simulation software (Aspen Plus, Pro/II, Hysys, AFT Fathom/Arrow, SiNet, Apros, etc.)
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

The salary range for this position is $28-30 per hour for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
