New Graduates
New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.
Neurologic Trauma Unit
5 North Neuro-Trauma/Surgical is a fast-paced, 25 private bed brain and spinal cord injury and insult unit. We are considered a Medical-Surgical unit and considered best and most complex neuro-trauma unit in the State of Indiana. 5N focuses a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses including, but not limited to, TBIs, cerebral hemorrhages, spinal cord injury, tumors, seizures, stroke, and disease processes that affect central nervous system function (meningitis, hydrocephalus, etc.).
Nursing skills gained on this unit:
- Management of complex and varying patient diagnoses
- Time management skills
- Complete neurological assessment
- Post operative surgical care skills

Qualifications
- Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
