What's in Store We're on the lookout for a Workers’ Compensation Claims Assistant to join our growing team in Maitland, FL! As a Workers’ Compensation Claims Assistant, you will assist claims specialists with the set up and administration of Workers’ Compensation claims and perform specific clerical duties related to the claims handling process. You must be able to identify issues that will require the claims specialists’ attention.  Additionally, you will be responsible for copy work, attaching documents electronically to the system claim file, and separation of file documentation related to legal representation on the claim.

This role is a full-time, in-office position based in our Maitland, FL office. You must reside locally in the Orlando, FL geographical area to be considered for the role. Remote opportunities are not offered with this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical assistance to claims specialists in a Workers’ Compensation claims environment.
  • Proactively identify and complete the daily tasks related to the handling of Workers’ Compensation claims independently and under the direction of a claims specialist:
  • Handle correspondence, letters, mail etc. on behalf of the claims specialist
  • Document notes in system file and track with computerized system
  • Work diary as assigned; keep diary up to date
  • Copy, scan and organize documentation as necessary
  • Identify issues that will require the claims specialist’s attention
  • Process form letters and state forms
  • Handle No Record Legal Mail, Obtain necessary information to complete the Notice of Injury
  • Review paper files for proper content paying attention to legal aspects; submit to attorneys as directed
  • Maintain system diary and keep up to date on a daily basis
  • Document in the system all claim activity timely and effectively
  • Analyze work content to determine the most efficient means of completing and expediting the assignment
  • Show initiative by developing an understanding of the claims process, including the importance of separation of file documentation for legal purposes – defense attorney vs opposing (IW) attorney 
  • If applicable/licensed, maintain current knowledge of law and statute, maintain CEUs and license in current status
  • Perform miscellaneous administrative/support functions as designated by supervisor

Skills, knowledge & expertise

  • High School Diploma
  • Exceptional typing/PC skills; 40+ WPM
  • A minimum of one year of office/administrative experience
  • Active Adjuster license for Florida (5-24, 5-20 or 6-20) preferred
  • Medical terminology/medical office experience preferred
