The Boeing Company is looking for a Secure Network & Protocols Software Engineers (Associate or Experienced) to join our P-8 Missions System Operating System Software Engineering team in Kent, Washington. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity supporting the software Execution Environment and Virtual Integration Platform development for P-8 Poseidon Mission Systems software. The P-8 Poseidon program is the premier Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) platform for the US Navy and several international partners.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Experienced Level Secure Network & Protocols Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, tests, and maintains the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Operating System (OS) software execution environment

  • Develops, tests, and maintains the high-fidelity desktop simulation environment to model the operation of P-8 Poseidon mission systems aircraft environment

  • Evaluates, tests, and integrates RHEL and Windows upgrades with mission systems software products

  • Completes RHEL and Windows OS cyber security investigations, upgrades, and enhancements

  • Investigates, integrates, and evaluates lab and aircraft hardware

  • Designs, develops, architects, and maintains software solutions for network stack protocol software used to securely exchange data between systems

  • Conducts performance analysis, testing, monitoring and software assessments of networking protocol software to assess, identify and address risks, weaknesses and vulnerabilities

  • Provides input on secure network and protocols throughout the end-to-end lifecycle development of software products

In addition, Experienced Engineers responsibilities include:

  • Researches and implements current and emerging networking protocols, software security trends, vulnerabilities, and technologies

  • Performs software project management activities and software supplier management functions

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 2+ years’ experience in the following areas: programming (e.g., C++, ColdFusion, Perl, Python, Bash, PHP, Fortran), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Unix, Solaris), and databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL

  • 2+ years of experience using Linux Red Hat

  • 2+ years of hands-on maintenance and configuration experience with network routers and switches

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 2+ years’ experience with operating systems (OS) concepts such as process management, memory management, kernel design, file systems, and device drivers

  • 2+ years’ experience with hardware architecture, including memory, networking, and I/O devices

  • Experience in cyber security

  • Experience in hardware emulation to create high-fidelity simulation environments

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
