The College of Public Health (CPH) prepares students to become leaders and shape the public’s health through academic excellence, research of consequence, community outreach, and interprofessional clinical practice. The College enrolls more than 1,900 undergraduate and 1,300 graduate students in its nationally-recognized offerings.

CPH Development provides strategic, active management of the fundraising efforts that support the College and student, faculty, and staff success.

About the Position:

The Associate Director of Constituent Engagement plays a key role in supporting and achieving the annual and strategic philanthropic goals of the College. This position coordinates with the Dean’s Office, Central Advancement Office, and external constituents to help achieve the fundraising goals and priorities of the College and University. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Development, this position is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies for success in securing significant philanthropic support for priorities.

The Associate Director of Constituent Engagement (ADOCE) will be integral to effective prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to support the work of the college. The ADOCE will work to build relationships with friends, parents, students, and particularly alumni through events and other various forms of outreach, collaborating with central Alumni Relations. This role serves as the liaison to Central Advancement for stewardship and annual giving, creating effective collaborations and innovative methods of outreach supporting the development life cycle.

Responsibilities:

Maintains Personal Portfolio and Supports Comprehensive Fundraising Program

  • Accountable for cultivating relationships with individuals and organizations with a focus on discovery, retention, and growth;
  • Makes appropriate contacts, proposals, and solicitations to achieve annual goals;
  • Researches, develops, and writes funding proposals, appeal letters, and reports as required;
  • Builds trusting relationships with advancement colleagues as well as deans, directors, prospects, donors and volunteers;
  • Becomes immersed in the key strategies and initiatives for the college and George Mason University;
  • Supports Senior Director of Development in research and outreach to pipeline of potential donors, previously unengaged with the college;
  • Coordinates the efforts of those who can assist in fundraising; tracks contacts, asks, and funds raised; drafts proposals and pledges agreements for potential donors; and proposes and coordinates appropriate cultivation and stewardship activities; 
  • Engages a wide range of colleagues, alumni, donors, prior faculty and staff, and individuals who might be able to help in pursuing/winning major gifts; 
  • Seeks the assistance of a wide range of people in identifying prospects who might make major gifts in the future; 
  • Communicates and executes the advancement and alumni relations agenda with the school’s volunteer boards and alumni affinity groups; 
  • Conducts discovery visits with prospective donors as identified by Central Advancement Research and will also hand-off or disqualify individuals from their portfolio based on an unwillingness to connect, lack of affinity, or philanthropic interest in another aspect of Mason; and
  • Works with staff to engage all alumni to advance the percentage of active involvement and increase alumni donations; and meet or exceed fundraising goals. 

 Coordinates with Central Advancement and Schools, Colleges, Units

  • Coordinates fundraising with other departments and utilizes services as appropriate; 
  • Ensures consistent and adequate communication between school/unit and Central Advancement; and 
  • Works closely with Central Advancement services including, but not limited to, Planned Giving, Annual Giving, Parents and Family Philanthropy, University Priorities, Alumni Relations, Communications, Systems, Operations, Donor Relations, Gifts and Records
