Emerging out of the turbulent years between WWI and WWII — a period that saw the rapid expansion of industrialization, global travel, and mass media — Modernist literature in America was characterized by intense formal experimentation and an engagement with the most pressing topics of its day, including race, gender, urbanization, and identity. This course will explore works by Willa Cather, John Dos Passos, Jean Toomer, Zora Neale Hurston, William Faulkner, Langston Hughes, T.S. Eliot, Ernest Hemingway, and more.
Qualifications
MA in English is required.
