Lead Systems Engineer
EATONAbout the role
What you’ll do:
Eaton’s Advanced Technology team is hiring a Lead Systems Engineer for its Protection, Control, and Solutions business. We are seeking an innovative, problem-solver to lead the technical integration of our next-generation solid-state circuit breaker product line, from architecture development through production. This is a rare opportunity to shape a new category of power protection technology from the ground up – working shoulder-to-shoulder with a cross-functional engineering team to turn cutting-edge semiconductor and protection technology into a product line that redefines how electrical systems are protected.
This role will be located in Moon Township, PA. A hybrid work model (3 onsite/2 remote) is available.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Own systems engineering architecture across a portfolio of solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) products, leading development from concept through production release.
- Translate top-level product requirements, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, safety, and regulatory requirements, into subsystem and component-level specifications for multiple product variants.
- Serve as the technical integration lead across Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Electronics, Power Electronics, Firmware/Controls, and Industrialization Engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain system architectures, interface definitions, and interface control documents (ICDs) for complex electro-mechanical products.
- Lead requirements management and traceability, ensuring alignment from customer and market needs through verification and validation activities.
- Drive architectural standardization, modularity, and platform reuse opportunities across the SSCB product portfolio.
- Define and manage verification and validation (V&V) strategies, test plans, and execution in partnership with V&V Engineering.
- Facilitate technical design reviews, risk assessments, FMEAs, root cause investigations, and corrective action initiatives across cross-functional teams.
- Partner with Program Management to align technical scope, schedule, resources, and risk across multiple concurrent development programs.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Product Management to ensure product specifications align with customer requirements, market needs, and business objectives.
- Support manufacturing readiness reviews, product industrialization efforts, and successful transition-to-production activities.
Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience in electrical/electronic hardware product development
• Demonstrated experience taking complex electromechanical or power electronics products from concept through production
• Experience with design review processes and risk analysis methods (FMEA, fault tree, etc.)
• Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with solid-state circuit protection, power switching, or protection relays
• Experience managing systems engineering across multiple concurrent product lines or a product platform
• Experience in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment with hands-on, hardware-rich development
• Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tool experience (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, Jama)
• Experience applying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies (DOE, DFMEA, DVP&R) to hardware product development
Skills:
• Working knowledge of power systems (power distribution, protection, or switching)
• Systems thinking and ability to translate customer needs into engineering requirements across a product family
• Strong cross-functional communication and technical leadership without direct authority
