Duties
Focus on large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects with a focus on the delivery of projects by leading significant portions of a variety of facilities throughout the cycle of design and construction, and startup phases as a technical specialist or lead. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Provide hands-on involvement in developing reports or technical memos, completing studies, detailed designs, and specifications, collaborating to complete cost estimates, and preparing contract documents. Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; and serve as the responsible charge for a project. Function as a technical specialist or in a lead role. Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expand knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. Expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas. Continue to learn, remain current and apply independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks. Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Develop in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industry as a technical specialist. Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s). Assist with performance management process, mentor, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Requirements
Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Environmental Engineering, or related discipline, plus at least four years of related experience. In the alternative, Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Environmental Engineering, or related discipline, plus at least five years of related experience. Must have experience selecting and recommending equipment and materials. Must have experience developing reports or technical memos. Must have experience planning and conducting independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Must have experience communicating client interests and drivers to project team members and developing approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects. Must have experience in software tools including AutoCAD, Bluebeam REVU, and Civil 3D. Local travel required up to 10% of the time. Telecommuting is permitted within standard commuting distance from the BV Walnut Creek office. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
