Sr. Scientist/Scientist, Translational Sciences
Flagship Pioneering, Inc.About the role
What if... We could harness the power of Flagship’s scientific platforms and create novel treatment options that benefit more patients, sooner?
Pioneering Medicines, an initiative of Flagship Pioneering, is building a world-class biopharmaceutical R&D capability focused on conceiving and developing life-changing treatments for patients by harnessing the power of Flagship's scientific platforms and applying those innovative approaches to serious diseases with unmet medical need. Unique to Pioneering Medicines’ approach is the opportunity to combine platforms to create truly novel and potentially transformative treatments.
About Flagship Pioneering:
Flagship Pioneering conceives, creates, resources, and develops first-in-category life science platform companies to transform human health and sustainability. Since its founding in 2000, the firm has originated and fostered the development of more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in over $34 billion in aggregate value, 500+ issued patents, and more than 50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents.
Position Summary:
Pioneering Medicines is seeking an innovative, motivated, and highly collaborative Scientist/Senior Scientist to join our Translational Sciences team. The position supports translational research activities aimed at bridging the gap between early research and clinical development. This role will be directly accountable on drug discovery project teams to support the deep characterization of novel and emerging drug candidates, enabling disease selection, patient enrichment, human dose predictions, biomarker discovery and/or development of biomarker assays suitable for clinical use. The candidate will be supported by scientific leaders to develop experience and expertise in drug discovery, pharmacology, and IND-enabling studies. We are looking for adaptive and scientifically curious individuals who embrace our core values of putting people and patients first, in an environment that encourages growth and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver impactful datasets to inform the translational direction of drug discovery program(s) (e.g., pharmacodynamic biomarker discovery for disease/patient selection, inform human dose predictions, develop novel biomarker assays)
- Lead from the bench to collaborate and contribute to drug discovery programs supporting translational research goals and strategies.
- Partner with CROs and/or collaborators to support development, validation, and operationalization of biomarker assays for use in clinical trials.
- Communicate research plans and data to colleagues with diverse scientific backgrounds.
- Maintain experimental records in an ELN and contribute to the writing of regulatory and/or scientific documents as necessary.
- Contribute to other prioritized activities and initiatives within the drug discovery group, aligned with team needs and personal interests.
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in Immunology, Pharmacology or equivalent with 0-3 years of experience
- Scientific expertise in translating pharmacology/cell biology into a translational disease context. Interest and experience adapting to different disciplines will be a plus.
- Independence in experimental design and execution, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of in vitro/in vivo study analysis with ability to work efficiently and productively in a highly dynamic environment.
- Team player with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with isolating and manipulating primary cells to perform downstream analysis through techniques such as (but not limited to) MSD/ELISA, FACS, western blots, qPCR, histology, fluorescence microscopy)
- Experience with scientific software (e.g., GraphPad PRISM, FlowJo)
- Track record of successful research outcomes (e.g., publications, presentations, contributions to successful drug discovery programs)
- Must be an organized and efficient multitasker with excellent ability to clearly communicate scientific data orally as well as via detailed documentation of experimental results via ELN.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preclinical research experience that supports early phase clinical studies or is directly related to the understanding of human disease/pharmacology.
- Experience with advanced cell biology techniques (organoid cultures, 3D cell culture models, iPSC manipulation) for use in pharmacology/translational research.
- Experience/understanding in the utility of bioinformatics to inform translational research directions.
