JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Russell E. Horn Sr. Learning Center at Penn State Harrisburg is seeking a caring, knowledgeable, and student-centered professional to serve as a part-time Academic Success Coach. The Academic Success Coach is a key part of a multi-unit team that supports student success and retention at the campus. This opening is a fully in person, part-time academic year opportunity for an average of 20-24 hours per week.
Job Duties
The Academic Success Coach supports students in:
- Developing effective study and test-taking strategies.
- Understanding and improving time management skills.
- Refining organizational skills.
- Speech preparation and presentation delivery.
- Developing academic goals and holding them accountable to them.
- Connecting with other campus and university support resources.
- Identifying other growth areas for academic success.
Both undergraduate and graduate students are served by this opening, with a focus on:
- Students who are on or close to academic warning.
- Re-enrolled students who were previously on academic suspension or dismissal.
- International students.
- First generation students.
- Students who are underprepared for higher education.
- Non-traditional students.
- Students with educational accommodations.
Responsibilities of this opening include:
- Meeting one-on-one with students to determine individual needs, develop a plan for success, and provide ongoing guidance in skills related to academic success.
- Presenting group sessions on a variety of academic success topics.
- Outreach to students via email, phone, and personal visits.
- Documentation of contact with students.
- Collaborating with Learning Center colleagues and other campus units to support student success and deliver programming on academic success.
- Other duties as assigned.
