Your Opportunity

Stantec seeking a highly qualified Senior Associate, Senior Mechanical Engineer – Federal as a technical leader with strong buildings engineering expertise and a proven track record delivering mechanical solutions for the built environment. This role provides leadership in the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems while leveraging tools such as Revit and other digital design technologies.

As a Senior Associate, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, support business development, and help grow Stantec’s Federal practice. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, provide technical leadership, and strengthen Stantec’s presence across California and the US West through innovative and client-focused solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

Business Development/Marketing – Build Trusted Client Relationships & Grow the Practice

  • Lead and support business development efforts to win new federal and government-sector projects aligned with regional and firm strategies.
  • Serve as a key client contact and trusted advisor, helping clients navigate technical, operational, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partners with Principals and marketing teams on proposals, interviews, capture planning, and client pursuits, contributing technical expertise and market knowledge.
  • Represent Stantec through industry events, conferences, professional organizations, presentations, and thought leadership activities.
  • Sustain and grow top-line revenue in collaboration with Regional and Business Center leadership to support growth across the Federal practice and US West region.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue opportunities for new business through strong client engagement and market awareness.

Lead Project Delivery

  • Own the successful delivery of complex federal projects from planning through construction, balancing quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
  • Serve as the primary project liaison for clients, stakeholders, and project teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Define project scope, goals, deliverables, staffing plans, and execution strategies in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead project teams through all phases of design and construction while fostering collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Guide project decision-making by evaluating technical, operational, budgetary, and schedule impacts and recommending practical solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and industry codes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Support construction administration activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, field observations, change order reviews, and punch list activities.
  • Apply strong mechanical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of building projects.
  • Manage and plan production resources and workflow to produce engineering calculations, design documentation, specifications, and drawings.
  • Meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives for each project.
  • Act as a quality control reviewer and technical resource on projects.
  • Effectively delegate work to production support staff and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Develop and deliver project-related client presentations and technical reports.
  • Attend and lead project meetings while coordinating efforts across offices and disciplines.
  • Prepare and oversee project deliverables including basis-of-design narratives, opinions of probable cost, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Research, evaluate, and present mechanical system options with clear communication of impacts to project goals, budget, schedule, sustainability, and operational performance.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and assessments of existing conditions to develop comprehensive engineering solutions.

Mentor, Lead, and Inspire Teams

  • Mentor and develop engineers, designers, and project leaders, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Provide guidance on project planning, workload forecasting, staffing, and resource management.
  • Serve as a trainer, coach, and technical resource for junior and mid-level staff.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project delivery practices, technical standards, and engineering processes.
  • Actively collaborate with the broader mechanical engineering practice across the US West and throughout Stantec.
