Job Description
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Join us to perform responsibilities as a staff accountant for the Financial Reporting & Compliance Team within the Office of the CFO. Provides general accounting, financial reporting, research and analysis of accounting and financial reporting issues, and provides additional support to the Financial Reporting Team. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal accounting standards (SFFAS), applicable laws, regulations, DOE contractual requirements, and NREL and Alliance policies and procedures. This position reports to the General Ledger Manager.
- Supports the daily balancing of the Oracle General Ledger module to the Oracle Project Accounting module and work with the General Ledger Team to resolve any discrepancies that may arise
- Supports the General Ledger Team with the month-end closing process and ensure the accurate and timely recording of accounting transactions
- Supports the General Ledger Team with the monthly trended trial balance review
- Prepares trial balance reconciliations between NREL and DOE at an accounting flexfield level, the uncosted balances reconciliation between NREL and DOE, and all other periodic reconciliations as required by the DOE or NREL management
- Performs and conducts analysis of balance sheet and other account reconciliations and supporting schedules, reports on discrepancies and assists in monthly account resolutions
- Provides support for cash management activities, including check and ACH run validations, as well as alternating days for daily drawdown and outstanding check estimates
- Records cash and check receipts transactions in Oracle for timely bank deposits
- Provides support for internal and external audit requests as needed, including the timely and accurate preparation of audit schedules
- Ensures compliance with financial operations policies and procedures, and ensure adequate controls are in place and operating effectively.
