Essential Responsibilities:
- Provides abortion care within scope of practice, allowed by law, and in accordance with PPM/PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines, including everything listed below.
- Provides medication abortions, surgical abortions, early pregnancy evaluation and management and mild/moderate sedation, including laboratory testing, patient medical screening, ultrasound performance and interpretation, counseling and informed consent, surgical and recovery room, post-abortion follow-up visits, etc.
- Provides all family planning services post-abortion procedure including Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive methods.
- Functions as clinical resource for clinical staff. Provides direct patient consults as necessary.
- Manages abortion service patients requiring outside referral and follow up.
- Assists with training of clinical staff for difficult counseling situations, sees patients with staff when necessary.
- Oversees ultrasounds performed for gestational age dating and early pregnancy issues and refers as appropriate.
- Supervises the care and follow-up for all early medication abortion patients, possible ectopic pregnancies or any patient needing follow-up of external laboratory or ultrasound results.
- Ensures appropriate follow up recommendations and follow up contacts of all medical abortion patients seen at PPM.
- Provides appropriate supervision and training for approved trainees in the health center.
- Provides non-abortion care within scope of practice, allowed by law, and in accordance with PPM/PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines, including everything listed below.
- Complex Contraception, including difficult LARC insertions/removals.
- Vasectomies.
- Colposcopy/LEEP.
- General Family Planning Services.
- Telehealth Services.
- Adheres to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, customer service, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
- Completes required trainings in a timely fashion.
- Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle and productivity goals.
Secondary Functions:
- Participates in clinical training and oversight activities.
- Assists with ultrasound training.
- Assists with clinician training and annual observations.
- Assists with Rh competency assessments under direction of the Laboratory Director.
- Participates as program director or designee for service lines as assigned by CMO.
- Participate in clinician’s meetings to disseminate information and/or provide training to expand skill of clinicians, including self.
- Travel to sites as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an approved medical school and licensed to practice in the State of Maryland. Board certified or Board eligible for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics/Gynecology in General Ob/Gyn.
- Preferred: Complex Family Planning Board Certification.
Experience/Skills:
- Specialized training in the areas of reproductive health, abortion, gynecology.
- Experience performing ultrasounds for gestational dating and assessment of placenta accreta spectrum.
- Experience with provision of outpatient second-trimester abortion care.
- Experience providing clinical care for abortion or post-abortion patients, including second trimester abortion care.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in an abortion care environment strongly preferred.
