SUPERVISOR: Special Education Mental Health Director

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Special Education Mental Health director, provide professional development on special education mental health issues. Work with special education directors, GT Director, assistant special education directors, special education liaisons, and twice exceptional liaison to improve special education social emotional learning, equity and trauma informed responses. Support district wide mental health assessment specialists and mental health providers who sole responsibility is to support special education programs.  Collaborate with BCBA liaison and feeder BCBA’s to embed mental health supports in functional behavior assessments

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations

 

Promote a positive and healthy working environment for districtwide mental health assessment specialist and mental health providers who sole responsibility is to support special education services. Inspire and motivate mental health excellence in special education districtwide by being a knowledgeable resource for mental health services. 10 percent monthly

Attend assessment planning, initial evaluation, annual review, and other types of special education meetings to support special education students. 20 percent monthly 

 

Under the direction of the Special Education Mental Health Director provide coaching on clinical supports for exceptional populations (special education and GT) mental health service delivery including administration of cognitive, social, emotional and adaptive assessments for special education  Collaborate with special education liaisons, BCBA liaison , feeder BCBA’s and RBT’s to assist school teams in conducting various levels of functional behavior assessments with emphasis on understanding emotional aspects of behavior . 20 percent monthly

Assist special education directors, GT director, assistant special education directors, and special education liaisons with intensive social emotional learning supports for special education students that are embedded with cultural humility, focus on equity, and are trauma informed. 5 percent monthly

Develop special education mental health programming and stay current with research on evidenced based social emotional learning for exceptional student populations, 10 percent monthly

Support specialized teams in special education such as (TBI Autism), and work with these specialized teams to develop effective behavioral and mental health interventions. 5 percent monthly

Work with Assistant Special Education Directors to support mental health providers providing Extended school year services and consult on summer psychological assessments when needed 10 percent monthly

Perform advanced level cognitive and social emotional assessment when there are extenuating circumstances around placement (i.e. Foote Center, Home FAPE, home  hospital, and Special Education Director or Assistant Special education Director directed). 20 percent monthly

Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in school psychology, and DORA clinical license in mental health field
• Five (5) years of experience in clinical mental health and school based mental health
• Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
• Advance knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
• Ability to work cooperatively with and engage in active participation with teachers, teaching assistants and other mental health and special education personnel to provide intervention and consultation regarding the needs of students.
• Ability to adhere to the professional ethical standards and guidelines developed by the National Association of School Psychology and the American Psychological Association.
• Ability to promote and follow the Board of Education policies, District policies, and building and department procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
