The purpose of this classification is to provide full-time attorneys to represent juveniles and/or parent(s) of juveniles that appear before the Court, primarily in Richmond County for Dependency, Deprivation and CHINS cases. Attorney will have experience practicing in a Juvenile Court setting and a passion for working with youthful offenders.
Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
- Conducts legal research; identifies the facts of legal matter; reviews legal opinions and various legal publications for research purposes; determine laws applicable to issue before court; drafts. Legal documents/memoranda on court cases, writs, and specific pints of law.
- Prepare orders for the Judge to review and sign.
- Evaluates and analyzes orders and motions, and monitors orders and motions for compliance with Judicial Rules, Regulations and Guidelines.
- Consult with assigned Judge and other Judges and Attorneys as needed.
- Collaborate with local and state agencies to support the needs of the youth and their families.
- Keep accurate records of legal documents.
- As Required: Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Education: Juris Doctorate (Required)
Experience: Experience with the defense of Delinquency, Dependency and CHINS Cases
Language: English
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must possess thorough knowledge of law and research procedures
- Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system; especially the court system
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as computers, printers, facsimile and telephones
- Effective written and oral skills are required
- Research, analyze, and digest legal facts and precedent
- Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions
- Recognize the inherent need for confidentiality
Certification: Georgia Bar License (Required) / Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
Travel: Travel will be required from office to other locations.
