POSITION:

Executive Director of Special Education 

And any positions that result from the filling of this posting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for Director of Special Education approval under MARSE Rule 340.1771, either Full Approval or eligibility for Temporary Approval.
  • Master's degree or higher required.
  • Must possess full approval or endorsement in at least one area of special education.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of successful professional practice or administrative experience in special education, or a combination of such practice and experience.
  • Michigan School Administrator Certificate or appropriate permit/credential, as required for the assignment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and effectively communicate information to administrators, the public, community groups, and the Board of Education.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education and/or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
DUTIES:
  • Design and coordinate world class special education and intervention programs
  • Develop progress monitoring systems for interventions and special education programs
  • Responsible for the development of procedures, forms, and templates for the operation of special education services
  • Provide ongoing professional training and coaching to special education teachers, ancillary staff,  and school administrators
  • Recruit and assist human resources in the filling of special education vacancies
  • Ensure that student records and documentation for special education issues are accurate, timely, and meaningful and in compliance with IDEA, MARSE, and County Guidelines
  • Ensures academic progress for all special education students
  • Ensure proper and compliant administration of all state, federal, and local assessments
  • Develop, implement, and supervise a goal orientated plan to reduce achievement gaps between special education students and their peers (meet AMO's)
  • Responsible for ensuring supervisionand evaluation all special education administrators and  staff
  • Review IEPs to ensure that they are based on quantitative present levels of performance, curriculum standards, and content and that they are relevant for the individual student
  • Drive and ensure compliance with all state and federal laws
  • Manage and supervise all center based programs including budget and compliance documents
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.  Knowledge of proper grammar and ability to write and communicate effectively and precisely.
  • Manages budgets for all curriculum and technology
  • Maintain a philosophy in accord with Lincoln Park Public Schools

Other duties as assigned

RESPONSIBLE TO:Superintendent of schools WORK SCHEDULE:Fifty-two (52) weeksSALARY:Salary to be commensurate with qualification and experience
