ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Metadata Specialist I
Able to perform the following cataloging and metadata tasks:
- Catalog priority purchases, electronic requests, and print requests
- Using Connexion, search for matching bibliographic records, edit records, create summaries and tables of contents, add collection notes, and add cutters to call numbers
- Update master records with missing content information or vendor resource links and set library holdings
- Check authority headings and subject headings for appropriateness
- Import records into Alma using proper import profile
- Remove library holdings on records in Connexion and withdraw bibliographic records, holdings, items, or portfolios in Alma
- Compare collection title lists to vendor websites, update collection title lists with added or removed titles, and troubleshoot discrepancies between collection title lists and Alma search results
- Consistently display excellent customer service through positive interaction and communication with other JFL departments and library customers.
- Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
- Strictly adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Metadata Specialist II
Proficiency in the functions and responsibilities of the Metadata Specialist I position.
- Investigate, report, and resolve errors and broken or missing links; research and add book award notes; and assign call numbers.
- Able to perform the following tasks independently:
- Catalog physical, electronic, and audiovisual resources, along with other format types
- Perform expedited catalog and process physical resource requests
- Download and process vendor update files from OCLC
- Restructure collection title lists based on platform changes and create new collection title lists
- Perform changes at the portfolio level using bulk and batch change tools
Metadata Specialist III
Proficiency in the functions and responsibilities of the Metadata Specialist I and II positions.
- Actively contribute to Metadata Team in understanding and resolving catalog-related issues.
- Manage cataloging supplies inventory.
- Able to perform the following tasks independently:
- Create new records
- Using constant data records, create records for doctoral, masters, and honors theses
- Derive from original book publication and create new bibliographic records for reprinted books or for electronic books
- Perform bulk clean-up operations using indication and normalization rules
- Assign subject headings
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Metadata Specialist I
High School Diploma
Metadata Specialist II
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and 2 years of relevant experience required.
Metadata Specialist III
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and 3 years of relevant experience required.
