Join our dedicated team where we We currently have an opportunity for a Hazardous Area Senior Professional Engineer in the Electrical Specialist area for Power Plant. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of new Generation projects such as the development of new build zero and low carbon generating assets, support existing assets within ESB’s plant portfolio and provide specialist support for consultancy services for national and international clients.
The Senior Professional will work within a team of specialist engineers delivering services to support ESB’s Generation business and external clients in electrical design and plant integrity issues on generating stations to ensure safe operation of these assets.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical knowledge of potentially explosive atmospheres on generating plant which will include drafting and updating of Engineering Standards, Plant Specifications, FAT protocols, Procedures, Processes, Inspection Schedules and Reports;
- Provide technical input including periodic review for station explosion protection documents (EPDs) including conformance to the requirements set down in European and National legislation (limited to Ireland and the UK);
- Prepare plant specifications and evaluate tenders from scope, quality and technical perspective for areas associated with potentially explosive atmosphere upgrades;
- Assist with detailed site surveys of existing facilities to determine the current state of compliance to National and European norms;
- Provide input to the quality and health and safety compliance in the delivery of site construction and commissioning phase of projects associated with potentially explosive atmospheres;
- Provide specialist services to support ESB Generation and Trading (GT) and external clients in Ireland and abroad in the area of potentially explosive atmospheres;
- Promote continual improvement in areas related to the potentially explosive atmospheres for all of the ESB fleet of generating stations;
- Maintain awareness of advances in knowledge, changes in laws regarding relevant EU Directives and Standards and taking timely account of these developments;
- Review technical matters, processes, method statements, risk assessments and other associated documentation relating to the development, permitting, design, construction, commissioning and operation of equipment across the ESB generating fleet in this specialist role;
- Assist in the manangment of the existing structured Compliance Certificate process for all operating facilities in line with the requirements of the Non-binding guide to good practice for implementing the European Parliament and Council Directive 1999/92/EC;

Essential
- The candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience working in the area of explosion protection
- The candidate must possess a sufficient level of competence in the area of explosion protection from concept through to design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance;
- A working knowledge of the following key documents will be beneficial: 2014/34/EU, 1999/92/EC, EN60079 series, IGEM-SR-25, SI299:2007 Parts 3 and 8, UK-L138;
- Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure;
- Project engineering and project management skills;
- Ability to make quality decisions and judgments, have strong time management and prioritisation skills;
- Competent and Knowledgeable in Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures, including risk assessment skills;
- A full clean Irish/EU driving licence
- Flexibility to travel nationwide
Qualifications
Essential
- Primary Degree in Electrical Engineering (At least Level 8 NFQ or above);
- Completed Electrical Apprenticeship or similar.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same
- CompEx qualified to modules Ex1-4 and Ex 14
