OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Regional Raw Sugar Team Manager oversees the operations of the discharge from ocean-going vessels, storage in bulk silos and warehouse at our Baltimore facility. Responsible for all operations relating to receipt, storage and delivery to process of raw sugar. Minimizes raw sugar handling costs by leading with unionized dock employees; interacting with contract stevedoring firms; and navigating company agreements. Responsible for handling vessel arrival schedules with minimal disruption to scheduled operations. Responsible for running projects related to raw sugar discharge systems and conveying systems involved with the delivery to the raw sugar silos. Directly supervises mechanics and electricians, and operators assigned to the Raw Sugar Operation.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Review and enhance discharge operations throughout the ASR group, establishing standardized procedures and implementing best practices aimed at optimizing discharge performance while minimizing long-term operational costs.
• Maintain a comprehensive review of labor and maintenance & repair (M&R) costs across the group’s stevedoring operations to identify and determine the most cost-effective solutions.
• Supervise and assist in planning of vessel discharges to assure concurrence with contractual agreements and discharge plan so that a high level of efficiency is achieved at the lowest possible cost.
• Ensure proper allocation of dock personnel for the raw sugar dock.
• Responsible for accurate weighing and sampling of raw sugar discharged from vessels.
• Prepares reports and records as required.
• Responsibility to ensure that dock supervisors maintain vessel discharge equipment.
• Conducts frequent inspections of operations and equipment under his/her control to assure that safe and approved work practices are followed and that state and federal safety regulations are observed.
• Responsible for implementing safety, environment, and quality procedures.
• Responsible for leading/managing improvement projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCES:
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems and repair.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and train employees in a team-based environment.
