The Product Line Renewables and Ocean Structures (ROS) is seeking an experienced hydrodynamic specialist with software development competence to be part of developing Sesam hydrodynamic programs. DNV Sesam software (https://www.dnv.com/sesam) is a global market leader in the maritime and oil & gas industries. As the world transitions towards renewable energy, Sesam is becoming key for the design and operation of fixed and floating offshore wind turbine (OWT) structures. You will be involved in challenging work to enhance the methodology, efficiency, and user experience of the Sesam workflows for maritime, offshore, and renewable structures.
Your primary responsibility will be to work as a software developer to enhance and renew our hydrodynamic software as part of the hydrodynamic team. The Sesam hydrodynamic software include HydroD, hydrodynamics solvers (Wadam, Wasim, Wajac), and associated tools.
The team is part of Software Engineering ROS which consists of 60+ dedicated developers and engineers in multiple locations such as Oslo, Bristol, Shanghai, and Gdynia. You will be part of a motivated team of domain experts, professional software engineers, software testers, product managers, and technical support engineers who pride themselves on delivering high-quality software. You will have the opportunity to solve hard and interesting problems.
The position is located in our office in Norway, Oslo (Høvik).
Main Responsibilities:
- Coding and development of our Sesam hydrodynamic solvers and associated tools used for hydrodynamic and strength assessment of maritime, offshore and renewable structures
- Maintain cutting-edge expertise in hydrodynamics and proactively drive thought leadership by scouting and integrating emerging methods and technologies
- Assist product manager, marketing and sales to understand customers’ needs in technical perspectives, including participation in meetings with customers
- Improve computational performance of Sesam hydrodynamic solvers and tools through profiling, code and algorithm optimization, and parallelization.
- 3rd line support for hydrodynamic solutions
- Understand customer needs for improving the performance and user experience of Sesam software engineering workflows
- Contribute to improving our automated build and test systems
- Delivery on scope and schedule according to requirements
- Dealing with technical debt and maintain technical health

Position Qualifications:
Must Have:
- MSc or PhD in hydrodynamics, Naval Architecture or a similar domain
- 5-10 years’ experience within the relevant domain and industries
- Familiar with frequency domain and time domain theory in hydrodynamic analysis.
- Motivation for software development
- Some software development experience in one of the following languages: Fortran, C++, C#
- Ability to build and maintain relationships
- Solution-oriented and proactive
Nice to Have:
- Professional software programming experience in one of the following languages: Fortran, C++, C#
- Familiarity with Sesam or similar hydrodynamic tools
- Familiarity with software development frameworks like Agile/Scrum
- Familiarity with DNV rules and RPs or relevant standards
