This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employee’s work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

 

This is work planning, developing implementing, conducting and/or evaluating food service or nutrition programs to assist in the promotion of health and control disease. May supervise activities of a department providing public health and clinical nutrition or food services, counsel individuals or conduct nutrition research.

Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.

 

The Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor is responsible for the planning, implementation, promotion, coordination, and evaluation of community nutrition related programs, providing nutrition education and counseling to individuals and groups, writing grant proposals and reports, monitoring budgets, and supervising staff. Work is performed both independently with professional freedom and in interdisciplinary teams. This position includes a combination of providing managerial direction and oversight to assigned sites within the nutrition division and implementing community nutrition education initiatives. Ensure the provision of services in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program are in accordance with the policies of the state WIC Program and regulations as stated in DHM 150-24. Direction is received from the Director of Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention (NCDP) policies and objectives.
