Director, Technical Content Development and Localization

What You Will Be Doing

The Manager, Technical Content Development will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic vision in planning, execution, and management of all technical content development initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for developing user-centric documentation, training, and other technical content for ChargePoint hardware, software, and services that is intuitive and modern. You will drive the creation of clean, easy-to-consume, yet detailed technical content using text, illustrations, video, and other online authoring tools. Your ability to work cross-functionally between engineering, support, testing, marketing, and product management is essential. You will drive collaboration between technical writers, illustrators, animators, and designers to create technical content and multimedia for internal and external audiences. You will maintain document revision control for content developed in multiple languages.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Oversee all phases of technical content production, including planning, design, editing, illustrating, and publishing
  • Manage the team in the development of technical content (documentation, training, and illustrations) in single source authoring tool/management solution including change control and translation
  • Write, edit, and review various deliverables and provide ongoing constructive feedback to continually improve quality of content, the production process, and develop skills of the team
  • Collaborate with illustrator(s) to incorporate rich media into technical documentation, training, portals, and knowledgebases
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to take complex technical product/service information and present it in comprehensible and accessible way
  • Own the document control process to manage approvals and track documentation changes and updates
  • Continually look for ways to enhance productivity through process improvements, task automation, and new technology
  • Align team deliverables with complex product launches and business initiatives

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of technical content creation in a complex product environment (Software and Hardware)
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams on technology products
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex technical products quickly and develop content relevant to the target audience
  • Proven ability to prepare content for different global markets using localization best practices.
  • Proficient in Madcap Flare XML authoring or other single-source publishing software (Adobe FrameMaker, oXygen XML, HelpNDoc)
  • Strong understanding of HTML and CSS is required
  • Experience with software like Adobe Suite, image editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP, etc.), and content management systems
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics and design principles
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while meeting tight deadlines
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in an environment with competing demands
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Atlassian Jira, Confluence, or similar project management tools is a plus
