About the role

Job Purpose

The Senior Technical Director, PIA will lead the Engineering team behind our Patient Intake Automation (PIA) product, helping drive successful delivery through project coordination, people management, and technical guidance. The Senior Technical Director, PIA will act as the connective tissue between engineers, quality assurance, change management, and leadership, ensuring projects are delivered on time, aligned with business goals, and executed with clarity and efficiency. This role is ideal for a hands-off technologist who thrives in orchestrating distributed teams, facilitating smooth operations, and communicating clearly with both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the PIA engineering team, including running daily standups and conducting regular 1:1s
• Oversee team performance, goal setting, and productivity tracking to ensure consistent progress
• Facilitate project prioritization and planning meetings, ensuring the backlog is well-groomed and actionable
• Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Change Management teams to align on testing, release schedules, and change protocols
• Review technical architecture plans, support code reviews, and unblock developers when needed
• Monitor CI/CD pipelines, static code analysis tools, and ensure all work meets security and quality standards
• Assist in creating and reviewing tickets, ensuring they’re well-defined and ready for development
• Organize weekly project planning meetings to keep work aligned with team priorities and business goals
• Ensure all work is properly tagged and associated with the correct release version
• Support QA and Security by reviewing new work for business requirement coverage, coordinating penetration tests, and disaster recovery exercises
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess risk, mitigate delays, and maintain client satisfaction
• Serve as a key contact on client calls, documenting outcomes, tracking deliverables, and communicating progress
• Ensure all developers are assigned, on-task, and aware of current and next priorities to prevent work stalls
• Promote clear, consistent communication within the engineering team and across functional departments
• Foster a remote-first culture of accountability, support, and high performance across global time zones
• Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
• Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
• Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• At least 5 years of experience in technical leadership or engineering management roles
• At least 2 years of prior hands-on software development experience
• Prior experience managing distributed teams and working in fully remote environments
• Strong organizational and project management skills with a track record of delivering complex technical projects
• Prior experience working directly with clients and communicating technical timelines and risks
• Familiarity with AWS Cloud, Serverless architecture, Lambda, Docker, Angular, REST APIs, and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB)
• Working knowledge of Git, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and static code analysis tools
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction
