Position Overview

The Department is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as Stationary Engineer-Chief at Stateville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will work to ensure that the staff supervised provide proficient and timely attention to the maintenance operational needs of the facility. Preparation of various reports will require attention to accuracy and detail, and the candidate will be essential in overseeing the needs and feasibility of major repairs or new construction at the facility. Essential Functions

  • Manages, coordinates, and administers all phases of the physical operations at Stateville Correctional Center including emergency, security and preventative maintenance and utility distribution systems.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Advises administration on need and feasibility of major repairs, new construction and large equipment purchases.
  • Prepares maintenance cost reports, requisitions, personnel reports, monthly, semi-annual and annual reports.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires seven (7) years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience implementing principles, practices and methods used in the operation of high-pressure
