POSITION SPECIFICS
A Proposal and Award Generalist is being sought to support faculty in pre-award administration in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at Penn State.
The Proposal and Award Generalist is vital to the pre-award process in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing through identifying funding opportunities, facilitating the proposal preparation process, submitting proposals, and reviewing awards for specific items and contractual requirements. This work involves close collaboration with faculty who are submitting research or educational proposals for grant funding.
The Proposal and Award Generalist will utilize multi-tasking and time management skills to complete this position’s responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:
Search for, obtain, and distribute funding opportunities; utilize and maintain database with this information
Review and submit research and outreach proposals on behalf of the college/Penn State
Prepare proposal budgets and non-technical components of grant applications
Review solicitation requirements and provide guidance to faculty to ensure compliant submissions
Generate grant application packages on a variety of government websites (i.e., Research.gov, Grants.gov)
Collaborate with college/unit offices on funding opportunities that require special handling (e.g., limited submissions, Request for Application, Request for Proposal, Intent to Qualify, and other solicitations)
Maintain cognizance of University research administration policies and guidelines, and provide guidance to faculty and staff on appropriate procedures and required approvals
Prioritize timelines/schedules through interpretation of potential funding opportunities; assist proposal teams in ensuring deadlines are met
Serve as liaison with university offices as needed to support proposal development
Initiates process improvements to address systemic roadblocks
Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Accounting, Office of Research Protections, and other University contacts as needed throughout the proposal process
After training, the Proposal and Award Generalist will also work with various software including Microsoft Office 365, SAP Concur, and Adobe Acrobat, as well as the following which are specific to Penn State:
SIMS (Strategic Information Management System)
SIMBA (System for Integrated Management, Budgeting and Accounting)
Employee Reimbursement System (ERS)
