Wood is currently recruiting for a talented Electrical Engineering Department/Team Lead - Renewables to join our diverse team of professionals. This role will form part of Wood’s strategic growth into the Clean Energy market and will be pivotal in helping Wood grow our offering to our current clients and wider renewables market.
Ideally, the role will be seated in our Austin, TX or Atlanta, Georgia offices, but we will consider qualified applicants from any US city where Wood has a local office.
The Electrical Engineering Department/Team Lead will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Electrical Engineering and Design Team/department. The primary responsibilities include Team/department administration, project staffing, quality assurance (QA), continuous improvement, , growth and entry into new technologies, mentoring and team education on new and/or revised tools and procedures. The Electrical Engineering Department/Team Lead - Renewables reports to the Engineering Team Lead.
The Electrical Engineering Department/Team Lead - Renewables will support the day-to-day operation of the Electrical design activities. The primary responsibilities include supporting the Electrical Project Leads with project execution oversight, quality assurance, and monitoring the consistency of engineering deliverables throughout the life of a project. Additional responsibilities include estimates, project quality and technical audits, staff recommendations, and assignments.
The Electrical Engineering Department/Team Lead - Renewables will oversee the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction and/or construction phases with a specific focus on the electrical design aspects of projects. You will act in a customer facing engineer role responsible for leading and growing Wood’s Electrical Engineering (EE) practice serving the renewables industry. Wood is seeking an enthusiastic, nimble, and entrepreneurial engineer interested in leading and rapidly growing a team of world class electrical engineers.
The Wood EE team provides the following services in all renewables including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, energy storage, green hydrogen, microgrid, and high voltage transmission: Owner’s engineering, including preliminary design, and third party design review of electrical plans, specifications, calculations, and studies; interconnection services including grid interconnection studies and applications, Independent Engineering and technical due diligence; technical review of projects through development, construction and repowering, including construction monitoring, in support of project financing, for developers, lenders, investors, and buy/sell mergers and acquisitions. Our teams apply significant experience in regulatory issues as applied in interconnection, grid operations, and transmission planning.
- Leading and managing the electrical design team on the delivery of renewable energy projects (PV, Wind and Battery Storage). Work will primarily focus on PV and BESS but a knowledge of Wind is an advantage.
- Acting as advisor and first escalation path on the electrical team’s projects, coordinating and supervising work by junior personnel, other company divisions, and subcontractors
- Develop, grow and manage procedures and operating systems to support the efficient delivery of electrical engineering tasks to the high standards required by Wood and our clients.
- Support business development and client engagement with a primary focus but not limited to electrical engineering scopes of work.
- Lead a team of multi-disciplined specialists to design, develop and deliver renewable energy projects with a specific focus on the electrical aspects of project development.
- Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to senior management.
- Act as the main interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
- Ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
- Add value, avoid/resolve issues, mitigate risks and manage project’s finances and contracts by applying robust project management practices and experience from previous projects.
- Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities for the company.
- Participation at site visits and meetings in the USA and abroad.
- Independently, train and develop junior staff, manage sensitive and confidential customer information, and ability to understand when to delegate and escalate tasks and issues as they arise
