About the role
Description
The Railroad Material Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of materials and equipment necessary for the maintenance and construction of railroad infrastructure. This role requires operating specialized trucks and equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and coordinating with other team members to support railroad operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Truck Operation:
- Operate trucks and other vehicles to transport railroad materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working order.
- Material Handling:
- Load and unload materials and equipment using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Secure loads to prevent shifting or damage during transport.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety regulations and guidelines related to vehicle operation and material handling.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with the operations team and supervisors to schedule material deliveries and pickups.
- Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials.
- Maintenance and Upkeep:
- Conduct routine maintenance on trucks and equipment, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and general cleanliness.
- Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of materials transported, including quantities and delivery locations.
- Complete required paperwork, including delivery tickets and inspection logs.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergencies or unexpected situations, such as vehicle breakdowns or accidents, in a prompt and efficient manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating trucks and handling materials, preferably in a railroad or construction environment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to truck operation and material handling.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to [weight] pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a truck.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and outdoor environments.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at various job sites.
- May require occasional travel and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
