JOB PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Technician supports the safe and efficient operation of the shelter facility. This role is responsible for general maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure the building, grounds, and equipment remain in good condition. The Technician helps maintain a safe environment for residents and staff.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Perform work as assigned including but not limited to make-readies, dry wall repair and painting, change light bulbs and a/c filters, minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical, etc.
  • Perform basic repairs to plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems as assigned.
  • Perform and document facility walk-throughs and checklist inspections.
  • Check for and remove all graffiti. Perform needed repairs within scope of knowledge, reporting all others to Shelter Manager.
  • Conduct routine inspections of building systems, safety equipment, and grounds.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs when needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory of maintenance supplies.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, or temporary facilities.
  • Support safety and emergency preparedness tasks (e.g., fire extinguishers, exits, generators).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, building codes, and shelter safety standards.
  • Assist program staff with furniture moving, document/picture hanging, donation pick-ups, trash removal, etc.
  • Request of ordering of supplies to Shelter Manager.
  • Complete and maintain paperwork:
    • Maintenance service requests
    • Project checklists, work logs and inspection reports
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED is required. Vocational/trade certificate a plus.

 

EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years’ experience in general maintenance, facilities, or building operations. 1-3 years in a customer service focused environment. Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

 

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.

 

LICENSES: Driver’s License with clear record.

 

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

 

WORK LOCATION: In-person

 

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
