FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position assists the Assistant Director of Safety with inspecting and maintaining the school's security, life safety and fire protection systems. This position handles confidential information and is trusted and expected to manage this information with discretion.

• Performs inspections, tests, maintenance, additions, and repairs on a variety of electronic addressable and non-addressable fire alarm systems, security alarm systems, and card access systems, including fire alarm control panels, telephone dialers, signal receivers, card readers, door sensors, smoke detectors, horns, strobes, flow, and tamper switches. Performs system configuration, device management, and updates to Honeywell data files for the purposes of troubleshooting the campus-wide fire alarm system and reporting systems status. Performs tests and preventive maintenance as required by NFPA 101 for exit and emergency lighting systems. Coordinates and conducts monthly fire exit drills in accordance with NFPA 101 and prepares documentation in compliance with Florida Fire Prevention code.  Assists contract professionals in testing building sprinkler systems, hood systems and hood suppression systems.  Makes repairs as needed and documents all tests, results and repairs in accordance with NFPA and prepares report for quality assurance.
• Reviews fire alarm and electrical systems construction drawings/documents for codes requirements and quality standards, makes recommendations and inspects buildings for codes compliance in accordance with NFPA 70, 72 and 101, reports deficiencies and re-inspects to ensure compliance. Assists with the monthly inspections of portable fire extinguishers and its required intervals. Ensures proper operation of the system and the actuation and reset of the shunt trip and alarm systems.
• Serves as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Evaluation Team for the purposes of critiquing all emergency preparedness drills, as well as assisting in the development of prevention/response/recovery procedures.  Assists the department with the creation and maintenance of keys and door hardware. Attends trainings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of computer based fire alarm and card access systems;
• Knowledge of the codes, methods, techniques and equipment used in maintaining compliance for fire protection and detection systems;
• Knowledge of electrical codes, theory and testing;
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
• Ability to obtain Journeyman Electrician License;
• Ability to conduct inspections of properties for deficiencies in electrical and fire safety protection and detection systems;
• Ability to install, troubleshoot and repair addressable fire alarm systems, card access systems, gate controllers and electrical systems;
• Ability to understand and apply applicable codes, rule, regulations, policies and procedures;
• Ability to prepare reports;
• Ability to acquire FASA/BASA certification;
