Job Description

About the role:

As Director, U.S. Communications Strategy and Operations, reporting to the Head, U.S. Communications, this role will be responsible for shaping Takeda’s U.S. visibility and future growth by collaborating with the U.S. Business Unit, U.S. Region and cross-functional global communications colleagues as well as varying levels of key internal stakeholders. This role will be responsible for co-creating, influencing and driving execution of the company’s U.S. priorities and will act as the Head, U.S. Communications’ delegate. This team member will also provide mentorship and leadership to the team and help create learning and development opportunities that fuels our talent pipeline.

This position is currently classified as "hybrid" in accordance with Takeda's Hybrid and Remote Work policy. Currently, this position will require a minimum of 2 days per week onsite in Cambridge, MA, USA.

How you will contribute:

Strategy

  • Partners with communicators across the U.S. and other key stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive U.S. communications strategy that the U.S. Communications team can plan for and execute.
  • Responsible for leading strategy and execution of U.S. communications annual planning and reporting, as well as monthly reporting and quarterly reporting, working with colleagues to ensure team drives meaningful impact on work that supports annual plans. This includes:
    • Coordinating across U.S. Communications team’s corporate reputation, media relations, influencer relations, employee communications and engagement, executive visibility, corporate and crisis communications efforts.
    • Support Head, U.S. Communications in creating a dynamic working environment to influence the organization without authority.
    • Lead efforts to expand U.S. plans and tailor for implementing in other regions/markets.
    • Manage oversight of external trends, best-in-class business practices and benchmarking to keep leadership and colleagues informed on external environment factors to enhance and protect Takeda’s corporate reputation.

Operations

  • Act as a liaison between cross-functional colleagues on U.S. Communications activities to ensure alignment and coordination on a variety of cross-functional initiatives.
  • Drive and/or coordinate Communications Community calls, as needed.
  • Build relationships with other Global Communications colleagues to factor key programs into U.S. communications needs, as relevant.
  • Responsible for driving U.S. Communications team meetings and providing U.S. Communications team with insights into cross-functional updates.
  • Manage agency partnerships, overall U.S. Communications team budget and annual contracting.
  • Lead after action reviews of high impact projects; provide recommendations for simplification of processes and systems.
  • Coordinate with Global Communications Office to ensure SOPs and guidelines are updated regularly and trainings are conducted annually.
  • Partner with Head, U.S. Communications to create lifelong learning opportunities for U.S. Communications team, supporting team growth and strengthening business acumen.
  • Help drive implementation of new technologies and AI to enhance Takeda’s communications strategies.

Corporate Communications

  • Build and manage a corporate media relations center of excellence coordinating with global colleagues and partnering with the U.S. Reputation, Media Relations and Issues and Crisis management colleagues to anticipate potential media issues and triage with relevant stakeholders
