What will this role achieve?

The Export Team Leader is accountable for the development of team members and raising any day-to-day issues back to the Export Manager whilst also covering the Manager when out of the office. The Team Leader will build relationships internally with other management teams within Supply Planning & Commercial to keep service to our customers as high as possible as well as hit our monthly commercial metrics. They will also work closely with various freight forwarders and external bodies to help save costs at different points in the export supply chain and drive efficiencies and excellent customer service.

What will be your key deliverables?

  • Leading all aspects of the day-to-day operation whilst providing support to the Export Manager.
  • Acting as conscience during the daily team meeting and keeping the team motivated and on track.
  • Frequent contact with the demand and supply planners to resolve product issues and communicate these to the team & customers to keep service above target.
  • Building relationships with the Export Demand Planner and having weekly meetings to improve forecast accuracy across all regions. As export stock is made to order, there is the possibility of driving a high level of waste so close management on this is meaningful. Over £100k of export stock was written off or sold through clearance channels in 2020.
  • Taking part in weekly service calls to ensure all stock is produced on time and in full and challenging the S&OP team if required to meet our customer's needs. This involves running the weekly service report to make sure we are hitting our metrics of dispatching all goods on time and in full.
  • Managing relationships with freight forwarders and having contact with various management within the forwarders so orders are dispatched on time.
  • Coordinating all export customs entries made by the team and following up on any issues to ensure goods are presented to HMRC accordingly. This safeguards our customs compliance and AEO accreditation.
  • Managing the relationship with external bodies who we request various documentation from to ensure their service to us remains high. Receiving paperwork on time is important to reduce instances of demurrage in receiving countries which was £60k in 2020.
  • Running regular 1-2-1’s with direct reports to help their development and yearly objectives.
  • Regularly looking at improvements and process changes to help ways of working both internally and with our customer base. This includes cost saving initiatives such as helping drive reductions in picking and aged stock.
  • Working closely with the FP&A team in Hayes to manage input of prices in the system so all customer’s orders are dispatched in time.
  • Helping set up new customers within our systems to ensure supply to new regions is smooth and our export business continues to grow.
  • Liaising with colleagues in other regions to make sure that system links are in place to receive orders on time.
