Job Description
Objective / Purpose:
The role within the High-Throughput Protein Production Team under the Global Biologics Group is centered around advancing early therapeutic discovery using high-throughput techniques. This involves cloning, mammalian transfection, purification, and optimization utilizing the latest automation technologies. The position demands involvement in designing and executing experiments, data analysis, and strategy development for protein production and automation. Additionally, the role includes contributing to matrix project teams and facilitating collaboration with various therapeutic groups, requiring effective communication and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
Accountabilities
- Independently perform high throughput production of proteins in various formats, including antibody-based (mAbs, bispecific, VHHs, Fc-fusion, etc) and alternative formats to discover and advance novel therapeutics.
- Perform cloning, plasmid prep, transient expression, and purification of protein constructs using automated liquid handlers (Tecan, Hamilton, Dynamic Devices).
- Independently operate, edit, and troubleshoot program scripts for a variety of liquid handling robotic platforms.
- Perform mammalian cell culture work, including the maintenance of cell lines.
- Perform HTP analytics such as CE-SDS and aSEC.
- Evaluate and implement new methods for high throughput protein production.
- Perform data analysis and tracking using LIMS systems and maintain detailed ELN
- Summarize and communicate results at team meetings and contribute to scientific discussions.
- Troubleshoots complex problems and actively participates in innovation and/or optimization of established processes and workflows to ensure delivery on project goals
- Assist and share responsibilities on routine lab practices such as managing inventory and maintenance of equipment.
Education & Competencies
- MS in a scientific discipline (or equivalent) with 2+ years of relevant experience, or BS with 4+ years of relevant experience
- Minimum 2 years of industry experience
- Experience with protein production workflow in an industry setting is required
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and protein characterization are required
- Previous experience with the operation of laboratory automation is required
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, including CHO and HEK cell lines is required
- Previous experience in protein analyticals such as aSEC and CE-SDS is highly desirable
- Prior experience with LIMS, preferably GeneData Biologics is highly desirable
- Experience with molecular biology techniques and software such as SnapGene and Geneious Prime is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills, along with the ability to work in cross-functional settings
