The intern's overall objective is to help the US Discovery + Data Insights (D+DI) team provide forensic, discovery, data analytics and technology consulting services to help clients address critical business risks. The Intern will work collaboratively with other consulting practices, such as our Regulatory Risks and Investigations and Crisis and Security Consulting teams, to provide innovative, data-driven solutions.
In return, the D+DI Project Management Intern will receive hands-on exposure to the world of electronic discovery, digital forensics and data analytics, and the end-to-end management of evidentiary data in support of litigation, investigations and compliance matters.
Tasks and responsibilities
As a D+ DI Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with project managers and consultants and learn the basics of digital forensics, electronic discovery and data analytics tools, best practices and use-cases. In supporting our D+DI team, you will be assisting top global law firms and Fortune 500 clients in high-stakes litigation, internal investigations and regulatory matters. You will be able to:
- Learn about data preservation and the areas of digital forensics and evidence tracking
- Learn the ins and outs of your digital footprint and how the information is preserved in metadata, why that’s important, and what can be done with it
- Learn about multi-disciplinary and cross functional project management basics
- Assist the US discovery project management team in all phases of litigation life cycle support including but not limited to case kick-off calls, evidence and data tracking, database setup, administration, and support of our leading law firm and corporate clients
- Learn about the design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative data analysis methodologies.
- Learn about dynamic data visualizations and dashboards for reporting, monitoring and other business use cases.
- Learn how to identify and extract relevant data from a wide variety of different datasets including (but not limited to), Enterprise Resource Planning, Financial, Accounting, incident and event monitoring, case management, system health, open source, etc.
- Learn how to identify and understand relationships between multiple data sources.
- Contribute to written analyses, summary reports, presentations and other client deliverables for projects and work performed.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and information sources throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. (Degree study concentration/focus in the areas of Law, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics or Math desired)
- Familiarity/experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, SAP, Oracle, DB2, Microsoft Access, or other database applications desirable.
- Familiarity/experience working in programming languages such as R, Python, C#/.NET, etc. desirable.
- Familiarity/experience working in data visualization platforms such as Tableau or PowerBI desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Solid organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail, ability to prioritize work, and provide proactive follow-up.
- Self-starter who are results oriented, resourceful, and an out the box thinker.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Logic-based skills a plus as well as efficiency with text editors and relational databases

Interns at Control Risks earn $19-$22 per hour based on level of education.
