Reporting to the Simulation Program Administrator, the Simulation Operations Technologist is an entry to intermediate level technical position contributing to the daily work of the medical simulation program. This person is part of program delivery and responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting high technology patient simulators, lower technology task trainers, medical equipment, computer hardware/software, recording devices and related multimedia technologies used in the training of faculty, learners and external users.

As part of a team that delivers simulation events through equipment, supply, moulage and costumes, this position is also responsible for the set up and teardown of events, technical operation of software and hardware. Additionally, this person is able to independently and proactively organize and follow detailed task instructions to prepare for assigned events and deliver recurring simulations with complex technical requirements.

This person participates as a productive team member and routinely anticipates known problem areas and has prevention strategies laid out in advance. The simulation operations technologist performs routine diagnostic and configuration on assigned software and hardware, understands overall program and curricular objectives and the purpose of simulation deliverables. This person may also assist with simulation-related research efforts as designated and provides an appropriate level of training on simulators, computer hardware and software, audiovisual equipment and related equipment. The role interfaces with multiple end users requiring strong communication skills and ability to use a variety of technical resources to provide program delivery support.

General Duties:

  • Ensure the setup and return of lab to pre-event condition and salvages reusable supplies
  • Program and operate simulator software for physiological response per faculty specifications andduring simulation sessions
  • Attend vendor specific training to gain a thorough knowledge of the technology-enabledworkflows and the application features and functions
  • Train staff, faculty and students on the use and operation of simulation equipment
  • Work collaboratively with end users to support simulation teaching and learning
  • Interface with Director of IT, Director of Facilities as needed
  • Maintain and oversee simulation master calendar including electronic tour request form
  • Manage and keep simulation resource, catalog and operation manual up to date
  • Oversee and maintain technology warranties and ensures up to date in collaboration with Sim Ops Tech
  • Manage shipping and receiving of simulation resources and works with Sim/On Doctoring Admin Assistant
  • Special technical projects as assigned
  • Create "How to", technical and checklist documents for end users
  • Oversee moulage needs for simulation based events
  • Clean up and track the ordering of additional supplies and restocking after activities
  • Ensure simulation website is up to date and contributes to the expansion/growth of the website
  • Generate innovative approaches for technology improvement and integration into medicaleducation
  • Leads ad hoc work groups to carry out complex and/or detailed task instructions
  • Track, log, and report equipment and resources needed for repurchasing and repairs
  • Ensure learner events are recorded and edited as needed
  • Fabricate/construct/innovate new models and use creativity in consideration of fiduciaryresponsibility
  • Ensures first aid kit and AED are accessible and in good standing

Lead Duties:

  • Ensure preventative maintenance is completed on all simulators and maintain records of completion
  • Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and repair of simulators and associated hardware and software
  • Works in collaboration with Director of IT to maintain simulation based AV equipment
  • Manage all aspects of programming, maintenance, repair and operation ofcomputerized/technology based simulators
  • Ensure recording software is setup for events
  • Interface with industry/vendor manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting, systemsproblems and periodic upgrades
  • Manage, organizes and archives recordings and maintains data and learner confidentiality ofrecords
  • Provide necessary assessment and maintenance of simulators and task trainers with regularcleaning and replacement of disposable parts including updates and emergency repair
  • Provide specialized technical support/maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems andtheir components, including operation of server infrastructure, digital cameras, video cameras,audio/video
