Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, provides technical assistance in support of activities in a laboratory, a workshop, in the field, etc. Carries out elementary assays. Prepares materials and equipment. Records data. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains inventory of supplies, instruments and equipment used in the immediate work area; compiles a list of items to be purchased.
- Maintains and performs minor repairs of the equipment and instruments under area of responsibility. Ensures cleanliness of work areas.
- Assists with various assays, exhibits, assemblies, etc. Notes and records data and performs some calculations. Enters and modifies data into a computerized information system.
- Prepares the material, solutions, equipment for use in laboratories, projects, etc.
- Assists with preparing, monitoring, inventorying and preserving the culture media.
- Completes standard reports.
- Informs immediate supervisor of any irregularities or defects; takes measures to rectify the situation.
- Uses equipment such as balances, microtomes, microscopes, centrifuges, etc.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
